Your brain is amazing.
It provides complex functions to regulate the systems of your body. But sometimes the information it has gets stuck in dysfunctional patterns.
Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) is a unique therapy that can help get your brain unstuck.
EMDR uses bilateral stimulation (activating both sides of the brain) to help information from the logical side of the brain connect with information from the emotional side of the brain.
The U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs recognizes EMDR as one of the three most effective treatments for PTSD.
EMDR therapy is also very helpful for treating anxiety disorders, depression, other trauma related events or complex trauma, substance abuse issues, and issues of self-esteem.
Maybe you feel stuck in the symptoms that circumstances have thrown you into.
Maybe it’s overflowing into other areas like work and your personal life. Maybe you know logically you shouldn’t react in the way you do, but you feel powerless to change.
EMDR therapy can help you by assisting your brain to connect new information with old. It can help you see things from a different perspective and release the burden that you’ve carried.
My Experience with EMDR Therapy
In 2023 I took the 40 hour official EMDR training and 10 hours of consultation. Since then, I have used EMDR, with great results, with clients with complex trauma, chronic anxiety, medical trauma, trauma from car accidents. I have also used EMDR with positive results with clients recovering from toxic relationships and eating disorders.
I consistently see shifts from negative to positive states of mind using EMDR and lessening of the distressing symptoms. I integrate EMDR with my holistic methods of doing therapy and it has proven to be a very valuable piece of healing.
